Communication Officer


Odyssea A.M.K.E (A Non-Profit Non-Governmental Organization based in Athens - Greece) seeks a Communication Officer to support the formulation and implementation of its communication strategy, with the purpose to raise awareness and promote the Organization’s activity towards different audiences and a variety of key stakeholders.
We are looking for a proactive person who will play a key role in the communication of our projects which focus: in providing to vulnerable and excluded groups and communities, targeted education tailored to realistic job opportunities and leading to new roles in the future labour market; as well as in empowering people through essential learning tools to increase self reliance and raise their absorption within existing and future markets.

Responsibilities:

  1. Designs and implements the strategic communication strategy for Odyssea A.M.K.E, by working as part of an integrated, multi-functional team planning.
  2. Identifies opportunities for media work and provides advice on what products or activities would work best to meet media objectives and achieve impact, ensuring all work is timely, with a strong news value targeted at defined audiences.
  3. Monitors media coverage and responds to queries from journalists / editors.
  4. Designs and coordinates campaigns and publications, according to the strategic communication objectives and priorities.
  5. Coordinates Odyssea A.M.K.E. social media strategy and oversees its digital presence and growth; writes, edits and maintains editorial marketing content related to Odyssea news, achievements, and field work posted to the appropriate webpages and social media channels.
  6. Proofreads, translates, and distributes press materials, such as news releases, dispatches and media advisories.
  7. Works with internal resources and outside vendors to develop promotional materials such as advertising, graphics, brochures and posters.
  8. Ensures the preparation for news conferences, meetings, and special events.
  9. Represents Odyssea A.M.K.E in partnership meetings, as needed and promotes its brand internally and externally.
  10. In close collaboration with the Fundraising Officer, identifies and submits applications for prizes and awards that could raise the profile of Odyssea A.M.K.E and secure funding.
  11. Assists in fundraising by participating in the preparation of applications submitted for corporate and trusts humanitarian funding.

Απαραίτητα Προσόντα


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • University degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Communications, Journalism or equivalent.
  • Current residency in Greece and work authorization for Greece required.
  • Excellent proofreading and oral communication skills in English are required; proficiency in other languages is desired.
  • At least 2 years of experience in communication in humanitarian organizations; experience in the domains of strategic priority for Odyssea is desired and will be considered as a plus.
  • Excellent writing, copy-editing and communication skills; experience in creating blog content and e-mail communications, experience in managing social media.
  • Experience working on a Content Management System (CMS) or publishing to a website, and proficiency in software packages, including MS Office applications, are required.
  • Excellent event planning, coordination and management skills; familiarity with the standards of writing and copy editing.
  • Excellent multitasking, time management and problem solving skills; must be able to work autonomously and in a team setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including patience and a sense of humor, and the ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously are required.
