Facilities Technician

Position Overview:

The Facilities Technician will support the efficient and safe operation of all UNIC Athens buildings and grounds. The position involves daily inspections, preventive maintenance, and prompt response to technical issues. The Facilities Technician ensures that all areas of the campus remain functional, safe, and well-maintained, contributing to a high-quality environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct daily inspections of the campus facilities (indoor and outdoor areas) to identify and report any maintenance or safety issues.
• Perform minor repair and maintenance tasks, including door adjustments, lighting replacements, air-conditioning checks, plumbing fixes, and other general technical works.
• Support the Facilities Manager in coordinating preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC systems, electrical panels, and other building equipment.
• Ensure proper functioning and shutdown of systems such as air-conditioning, lighting, and alarms at the end of each day.
• Liaise with external technicians or service providers when specialized maintenance or repairs are required, ensuring proper supervision of works.
• Assist with set-ups for events, classroom rearrangements, and furniture moves, ensuring readiness and cleanliness of all common areas.
• Maintain an up-to-date logbook of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
• Monitor the condition of outdoor areas, entrances, parking, and signage, ensuring a professional image of the University.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures, reporting hazards or malfunctions immediately.
• Support emergency response actions (e.g., power failures, leaks, or security incidents) in coordination with the Facilities Manager.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the campus.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Diploma or Technical Certification in a relevant field (e.g., electrical work, mechanical systems, building installations, construction, or technical trades) from any recognized educational institution
• Minimum 3 years of experience in building maintenance, preferably in educational, hotel, or office facilities.
• Solid hands-on experience with basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Ability to use tools and maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
• Good knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
• Reliability, attention to detail, and initiative in identifying and solving issues before they escalate.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Greek (English knowledge will be considered an asset).

Desirable:

• Prior experience in a university or large institutional environment.
• Familiarity with energy conservation and safety protocols.
• Computer literacy (email, maintenance logs, checklists).
