Purpose/objective of the position:
The Accommodation Supervisor – Hygiene Promoter contributes to the maintenance of hygienic conditions in INTERSOS accommodation facilities through conducting assessments on personal and environmental hygiene (including pest control and disinfestation by third parties), identifying key issues and planning hygiene promotion activities, supervising community led hygiene activities, and leading a variety of hygiene promotion activities
Programme Quality and Specific HP tasks
Conduct assessments (using checklists and surveys) on WASH and hygiene among communities agreed upon within the team;
Contribute to the collection of data, analyze and report findings, developing an action plan to address key identified issues in collaboration with the Senior Accommodation Supervisor and Protection Officer/Health FP
Identify facilitators together with the Senior Accommodation Supervisor within the communities and conduct training, with the support of the Protection Officer/Health FP (for content), ensuring regular monitoring and follow up of progress as well as ongoing capacity development; of the focal points.
Mobilize, organise and supervise, through facilitators or other means, members of the communities to take ownership of maintaining best practices in personal, community and environmental hygiene;
Conduct participatory hygiene promotion sessions within communities, schools, groups of persons with specific needs, according to age, gender and diversity, community-based committees (including thematic meetings, or community meetings) and other groups;
Develop contacts with community leaders and key stakeholders to explain and promote the organisation and projects;
Act as a link between the organization and the beneficiaries.
Manage and conduct home visiting to assess, inform and motivate families to improve hygiene and living conditions when required;
Promote hygiene education through a variety of means, such as information sharing, dissemination, and communication materials;
Provide support to the distribution of hygiene items, and conduct monitoring and follow up to ensure proper usage of items and appropriateness;
Maintain full qualitative and quantitative records and reports of activities, disaggregated by age, gender and diversity where appropriate;
Notify the coordinator and the WASH and Shelter team in relation to matters pertaining to the maintenance and upkeep of the accommodation facilities.
Monitor the state of the accommodation from the perspective of safety and security requirements
Provide information within the ethos of monitoring of protection related issues within the accommodation. Ensure that the accommodation aides a stronger protection environment, problem solve and troubleshoot where it doesn't..
Assist with the process of data collection and physical verification procedures.
Support in the coordination of transfers in and out of accommodation.
Support in the dissemination of NFIs and information to PoCs
Monitoring and Reporting
Provide regular progress reports to the Senior Accommodation Supervisor and other focal points where required
To provide on weekly basis the updated requirements to the Senior Accommodation Supervisor
Other
Support in distribution activities undertaken by INTERSOS in the absence of other NFI providers
Perform any other tasks as may be requested or required by the job
Reporting Requirements
As per main duties outlined above the Accommodation Supervisor – Hygiene Promoter will:
- Attend weekly/biweekly meetings together with other Colleagues
- Attend General Meetings
As per required the Accommodation Supervisor – Hygiene Promoter should be copied in relation to:
- General Team issues
- General sector issues
- Specific WASH, Shelter or HP Issues
- HP related communication
- Other relevant communication e.g. NFIs
