PHP Web Developer

Job Description
The University of Nicosia seeks a PHP Web Developer who will assist in in-house PHP web developments, implementation, support and testing of applications to ensure that they meet all declared requirements and end-user expectations.

Responsibilities

• Writing well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices including source code management techniques
• Apply E-Commerce applications
• Assist in maintaining, expanding, and scaling existing software and several websites the Intelligent Web Development team undertakes
• Assist in software and plugin updates and ensure their efficient functionality and performance
• Assist in software and websites’ testing procedure at staging environment
• Assist in creation of website layout/user interface by using standard HTML/CSS/JS practices
• Develop and maintain software documentation.
• Stay plugged into emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them into operations and activities
• Provide technical support to colleagues
• Monitor and improve website performance optimization techniques
• Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for our websites
• Any other relevant to the Organization’s needs duties as assigned by the IT Head

Academic Qualifications

• BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other relevant areas.
• An MSc degree will be considered as an advantage.

• Good Knowledge of PHP, CSS, JS, JQuery and HTML.
• Firm understanding and Experience with WordPress
• Good Knowledge of Database technologies – relational and NoSQL
• A solid understanding of how web applications work including security, session management, and best development practices
• Good Knowledge of Source Code Management techniques – Git, Mercurial, SVN, etc.
• Having a good sense of design will be considered as an advantage
• Problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills
• Experience optimizing web pages for optimal speed and responsiveness
• Knowledge of performance metrics and web performance tools
• Knowledge of plugin development for WordPress will be considered as an advantage.

Additional Qualifications that will be considered as advantageous:

• At least 2 years of experience of a member of Software Development team.
